My name is Houston Dodd and I think that I should give you some information of myself.
I am a husband of a wonderful wife and godly woman. She has been both an inspiration and encouragement to me. I also am a father of two grown sons.
I have been a Bible teacher for over 35 years and have served as a deacon on many occasions and currently now serving in a local Baptist church in Muncie, Ind.
My personal testimony of salvation begins when I was 10 years old and our school took us about three blocks to a church for a Good Friday service. It was there that I heard that Jesus died on the cross for my sin. I went forward and an altar worker prayed with, and for me. However, I was not raised in a Christian home and did not receive any assurance of what I had done from the church or was I ever followed up on. Also, I received no encouragement when I got home. Was I saved? I do not know. I now do believe that at that point God put His loving hand on me for future use.
My second encounter with the Lord was when I was 16 and going to church because of my girl-friend. I know it was for the wrong reason, but at least I was in church. It was at a summer youth camp that I made a commitment to the Lord and felt that I had done the right thing. But again, no assurance and no encouragement at home. As things go at that age, I was soon out of a girlfriend and no longer wanted to go to church. I stayed in that condition for several years. I had gotten married and my two sons were of age that they should be in church along with my wife and me.
I was talking to a friend at work which had been a pastor and he was then filling pulpits and he suggested to me that he send a pastor from my town to see me. I said okay, and when the pastor came he showed me from the Bible how I could be saved and how I could know it. My wife and I knelt and prayed and received Jesus as our Savior. Soon I was baptized and began going to church, and have never been out of church since. That was over 42 years ago. Praise the Lord, I know I am going to heaven when I pass from this life. I also realize that I am but a sinner saved by the grace of God. I love the Lord and am seeking ways to serve Him.
My first wife passed away ten years ago and I have since remarried.
The Holy Spirit gave me the gift of teaching the Word of God and soon I was teaching and have been since.
My wife and I have been privileged to begin a teen bible study in our home. She teaches the teen girls on every other Monday’s and I have taught the boys on the other Monday night. Lately, I have been turning my ministry to the boys over to a fine young man that is dedicated to the word of God and loves the Lord.
As a result of being selected a deacon in the church, I have been privileged to stand in the pulpit on occasions and preach. What I have put on my web page are some of the sermons.
